@Boitumelo45 Thanks a lot, I’ll be there in october and will definitely do that. In the meantime all the best for you!

@Boitumelo45 Thanks a lot for your help to you and your father! :) I’ll tweet you some pics of the other Luckau in return when I’m there.

@Boitumelo45 I’ll call them in the next days. I’m curious if it’s possible to get a weird info like that by a long-distance phone call. ;)

@Boitumelo45 Thanks a lot! Does your father know where the local government for Luckau is located? Is it in Pretoria?

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 Please say Hi to your dad. Best regards from someone who has visited the other Luckau many times. :)

@Boitumelo45 Would be a big coincidence it it led there but it’s worth a try. The unusual name ‘Luckau’ made me wonder.

@Boitumelo45 I’m involved with our family tree and have one ancient branch that somehow points to Africa.

@Boitumelo45 Whoa, that’s great! Would you please do me a huge favour & ask him where the name ‘Luckau’ comes from if you see him next time?

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 Do you know historians or similar people from that area? Is there anyone I could talk to?

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 I’ll be probably be there later this year for a visit and will send you some pictures. :)

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 The german ‘Luckau’ goes back to 1230 & it would be possible (though unlikely) that people from that area came to South Africa.

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 Thanks, good to know that. I know there was an european settlement in South Africa ~1700 & thought there might be a connection.

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 Does ‘Luckau’ have a meaning in your language? Do you know where it comes from?

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 And it’s not only satellite images … they also have Streetview pictures from the main road. twitpic.com/cy1tl7

@Boitumelo45 Sure it’s there: goo.gl/maps/bYihG // I was amazed too, but the map seems rather detailed for a small place like that.

@Boitumelo45 I checked the net (and even drove on the main road with Google Streetview …) but couldn’t find anything. :(

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 We were wondering if there is any historical connection between them. ‘Luckau’ doesn’t sound like a typical african city name.

via Gravity! in reply to Boitumelo45

@Boitumelo45 I have relatives in the german city of the same name: http://t.co/kCyLPCltwX // Do you know about this place over there?

@Boitumelo45 Hi! You wrote in http://t.co/Dt1tWkRlcO that you are in Luckau. Can I ask you something?
